I made a replacement history viewer
To download the viewer, go here: http://www26.brinkster.com/idejsecr/HisView/hisview.asp That's right. I got tired of not being able to search the history with the history viewer, so I made my own. Email me (darkforcesjedi@ec.rr.com) if you want the source code. Details: -It WILL allow you to search...

Another idea for those of us with NTFS filesystems: just set the NTFS permissions so that no other user on the computer can view the history for your screenname. Alas, this wouldn't help if you leave your computer unlocked and unattended. Not that I have to worry about everyone reading my history fi...

In the interim you can go to http://www.actualtools.com and get Actual Title Buttons (shareware). It will add minimize-to-tray and always-on-top buttons to the title bars of any programs you choose, including IMs. It works great.

Buddy Alerts
In AIM there are 3 kinds of buddy alerts. 1) signs on 2) comes back from idle 3) comes back from away. If I enable all the alerts for 'User1' and User1 is away and idle, then when User1 is no longer idle I get an alert, which is stupid because User1 is still away so I can't talk to User1 anyway. I t...

Interesting thought about away messages...
Perhaps there could be a series of different types of away messages, for instance: On the phone (a telephone icon would be next to the s/n instead of that little note) In school (a notebook) Be right back (a BRB icon) etc... I think this could be implemented by putting comment tags in away messages ...

Hiding windows with away message
If you use an away message with the "hide windows while i'm away" option and you get disconnected ("connection lost try again later"), after reconnecting all the IM and alert windows will be hidden. This can be resolved by setting an away message, disselecting the option and hitt...

Send an IM that looks like an away message
Would it be possible to send an IM that looks like an away message (i.e. "Auto Response from Username: blah")? It wouldn't serve much of a function, but I think it would be a neat trick to be able to harass my friends like that.

I think tabbed windows are an excellent idea; however, I think there should be a way to group IM windows into tabbed windows. For instance, I might want to have User1, User2, and User3 in tabbed IM window #1, User4 and User5 in tabbed window #2, and User6 in a non-tabbed window. There should be a wi...
