99% of the time that means the modem is not responding. Go into your device manager (system properties > Hardware tab > Device manager) then find the modem and go into its properties. Try querying the modem and see if it responds. Restarting normally fixes this problem. If worse comes to worse reins...

But proprietary hardware makes them cost more. Am I right or not? Thats the only down side to Macs that I can see.
