I thought you used the themes from ThemeXP with a program, something like StyleXP.

I was always under the impression you had to use StyleXP.

You could always *gasp* pay for StyleXP.

Yes, you have to use stylexp to get those themes to correctly work.

actually....
this program from http://www.neowin.net patches a windows file called "uxtheme.dll," thereby allowing windows to load unofficial theme files:
http://www.neowin.net/downloads/uxtheme_v1.zip

then you can load stylexp themes without the program running in the background.
my personal favorite place for themes:
Neowin completed themes.
They're one of my favorite computer related news sites, and have a very active forum.

other places for themes:
http://www.deviantart.com
http://www.deskmod.com (more or less the same as deviant)
http://www.wincustomize.com
please stop. now.

So all i have to do is download uxtheme, unzip it. Then I can go to that Neo Win website, or w/e and download those and then it will automatically load into Themes, under Display properties????? Cuz before i have downloaded this patch on some website that i found on one of the earlier posts. That didnt work, and Style XP was kool, but I'm not old enough for a credit card, and my parents wont let use their's for my own use, and i wont steal it, cuz they find out  lol. So I hope that does the job!

woops.
you have to be a member at the neowin forums i guess.
i'll add the attachment.
all you do is run the little program, restart, find a theme you want, dl the zip or rar, and run the msstyles file. that is all.

one other thing: if you get a message from windows saying that files have been changed, insert your win cd to repair, DO NOT DO IT. that is all.

I downloaded that attatchment thing ashtray sent, and restarted my computer, then i went to Neowin completed themes and to try and see if it worked. I downloaded the blue curve theme, and downloaded it and then i installed it. I installed it to C:Windows/Resources/Themes and went to the appearance settings, and the theme didnt come up!! So i duno why it wont work, and i dont get an error sayin' the files have been changed!!! So i guess im doing something wrong, or my comp. is too smart and doesnt let me use hacked themes

The deal with the themes is that Windows has a built-in check to see if they were signed by Microsoft. If you have the hacked dll installed properly there's no reason it shouldn't work.
