IP Addresses

Post by chatyking »

Is there any way it is possible to trace all IP addresses that have access to your computer? including msn messenger?

If your running a Webserver.. yes.

Or if you have Windows NT / 2000 / XP, you can run a command line program called Netstat -- which basically shows all IPs coming through your connection, but it won't keep logs of them as a Webserver does.

And for Messenger programs such as AIM they have to be directly connected to you 'Direct Connect' is the name within AIM..for Netstat to report any IPs

Hope that helps.

tracert (IP here) is a helpful NT command that will trace an IP for you.

If you do "netstat -n -a -o" to the right there will be a column that is called "PID"

This tells you what process is using those connections.

Do ctrl+alt+del then click task manager. Use the PID column to match up what program is using what connections.

So if there are a few IP addresses being used by PID 928, and 928 is msn messenger, its using those IP addresses for whatever reasons (direct connect, ads, Bill Gates to put a cyber form of herpes on your computer)

This is all assuming Win NT/2k/XP.

Can't you just type "netstat -nao"? (I know you can do it in Unix, maybe Windows doesn't handle options the same way.)
