Website Tracking

Post by xteq113 »

Ok, I know websites can grab your ip adress, operating systems, and lots of other system prefernces, but can they grab your isp? I was browsing a site best not named on here, when i get one of those pages popping up saying you've been caught searching what not and what so. I know it was all a bunch of crap, but then i saw it had my isp. WPIA (western pa internet accsess). Now don't get me wrong, that is certainly not a common name for an isp and i doubt it was coinncedntal. Is there a way of extrwacing that off my computer, or was it my isp?

Take a look at the user "Axilla"'s signature. It shows what your ip address, OS, and ISP are.

But I wouldn't worry if I were you about that information going to a web site. It was probably a page to scare people who are trying to look at porn.

It's not hard to figure out your ISP after they have your IP. They just trace the IP to who owns it...

IP combined with OS are very useful to hackers. They need an IP to connect to, and with your OS verson, they may know some particular vulnerabilities for that OS. I'm not sure, but I think that there are web browsers availale that will lie about your OS and browser type.

There are - On linux at least... It mostly helps though because some sites won't let you in if you don't have IE.

That is true Jedi man. If you download Mozilla Browser, or it's superior brother, Firebird; you can lie about which browser you're using with the click of a button. It's nice for those IE only Websites.

And the browser I use, Konqueror, I can disable the information all together.

Looky, here's a screenshot too.
