Internet Speed

Post by xteq113 »

Ok, I just got this new computer

[Windows XP Pro, 512DDR RAM, dual 3.04 gig P4's, Maxtor 80 Gig HD, Nvidia G-Force Effex 5200 128MB, 17" KDS LCD :D ] (Sry, had to brag a little although I know it's not that great)

Anyway I get on the internet at 31.2 Kb, not bad, but whenever I go to download anything or get on a webpage it will stop loading, and then just stop. For example, I can't like download software at all. I went to grab the latest source of GAIM and I got like the first 120 k, and then it just stopped. It's horible. It's like that with all the downloads I've tried. The same happens with webpages. It starts, and then just dies. It doesnt get kicked off, it just stops downloading the information. Any ideas?

i see a few inconsistencies

1st, a P4 w/ default clocking will only go around 3.06 or 3.2

2nd, unless theyre xeons, U DONT HAVE TWO PHYSICAL PROCESSORS.

maby hyperthreading caused u to think you have 2. newayz, ur sys is a hell of alot better than mine

ok, about ur prob, i think i had a similar prob, try these:

1-restart ur computer (u prolly did)
2-tell me if u loose ur internet until u redial
3-reinstall winsock (http://www.webattack.com/get/winsockxpfix.html)

Thats a hell of a lot of music axilla. I have about 2000 tracks (in WMA) and they total about 6 GB. I have a few GB of recorded TV, but in general i rarely am using over 10 GB of disk space.

My laptop (with a 20GB HD) came with over 10 gigs of preinstalled stuff. I ran out of space on my first day using it. Then I realized how much worthless stuff was on it.

I don't bother with WMAs cuz they're horrible quality.

I have about 8k mp3s, then I have about 50 live concerts in .shn format

That is noughing. I have a friend with 480gig (well not 560gigs) of HD space. On there he has 10+gig of songs and a few 100gigs of movies and TV shows. when he was at 480gigs he was starting to run low on HD space he was done to 40 gigs
