LOL well here at tech we have a ton of comptuer labs. (I know though out the engineering key we have 10+) Plus at the libary there is the Huge ATLC lab. most of hte comptuers are Dell p4. And they are pretty heavyly loaded with software. On top of that we have seaveral G5 mac labs (never have used them). Also several of the dorms have 24 hour computer labs for students. Most of the stuff is run off a network drive over all the comptuer are pretty nice though a few years old but good. A least 1 Ghz. A really fast t3 line for all of us. Plus we have have a few gigs of space to store our own persanl files for short term use on the each computer. But you also need to remeber I am at a Collage so we have much more comptuer powers.

As for my HS I hated the comptuer labs there. THey where very out dated when I went there. Hell we even had some apple 2 that still some poor people had to use. Also we had to use power macs. ..

I might like to add that HS computer labs are really weak and they go massivly overboard on the sercuty for proctecting them and Bess blockers. Here at Texas tech there is no stupid blocker program but the punishment for going someplace we shouldnt (for example a porn site). Is much more extrem but they can punish like that because we are adults. Mostly I still run of my personal comptuer so dont really use them much.

Just wait tell you get ot collage and if the computer labs suck then start really bitching

I don't remember what our computer stuff was really like when I was in high school. I do remember that we didn't have any sort of blocker or anything (they probably do now). But that was around 6 years ago. They probably have to have a network system for them to sign on and such... we never had that when I was there. Man... thinking about this makes me feel old... and I'm NOT!

The perks of living in a district with the second highest school budget...

You get the best technology. I'm pretty sure we are one of the top high schools in that regard.... A PC of at least 500 Mhz in every class room (fairly quickly being replaced by 2.* Ghz computers), with a... Too fast printer, and a 32" TV hooked to the computer...

The library has (at last count (by me)) 24 computers... My senior year that was more like 32...

We have a MAC lab. Never been in there, but the teacher is the head of the Tech department so... Ya...

We have at least 4 PC labs... Once again moving up to that 2 Ghz computer...

Then... For every teacher that can pass a hard test (errr.... Hard for 90% of the teachers... Piece of cake for anyone on this board) they get to have $50 (for the teacher for passing the test).

Oh and the laptop lab... Not quite sure how that works... Never seen them out side the lab, and never been in it...

So ya...

BTW I don't know why I keep saying "we"... Guess it's a hard habit to break.

Woah...is that a high school? The library on my university's campus has hundreds of computers. Campus has dozens of labs each with dozens of hella fast computers, printers that print 30 pages/min or faster (hafta pay $0.06/page though). Some labs are better than others. Plus there's like 4 TB of storage for students and they'll host a 50 meg website for free (no server-side scripting though).

Ya that was my HS... Always getting praised for their Technology department (recently even won a major Graphics Award).

My College is... Decent... There are about 20 computers in our library. You have to pay 5 cents to print there but there is a solution (read on).

We have... Something like 4 "Learning Centers". They all have computers. Most I would say have 20-30 computers. Then we have the main learning center (only one where any person can enter (not course dependent). They have 90 computers... When that fills up they sometimes allow the accounting LC to be used (another 20-30 computers). In there you can print anything you want for free (As long as you don't get caught (And with 10 printer and 5 printing at any given time your not going to get caught).

The library then has 20 laptops that can be used in the library. The library has a wireless network.

You then have about 20 computers scattered around the building that can only view the college's site (And certain pay research sites).

I'm pretty sure not one of those computers is less then 1.6 Ghz. Their also kept in prime condition, with a fresh start on every reboot (rebooted one daily (more if really messed up)).

Don't get me started on the city school system though...

Be careful of collage wireless networks on where you go on the net. The tend to watch those packets a lot more closely and they do have the ablitly to get passwords and everything else from them (not like they do). The reason I know have a friend who works for that deparment at the school. Tech as some of a wireless network but it is the 2nd largest campus in the nation (Loosing only to the airforce) and the builds here destroy wireless signals (I think when they did the math it came out to 1 router 1.5 rooms). I dont know much about the 2nd wireless network we got in the engineering key because it is separated from Tech. I need to go down and fill out a form and they will let me on it. Prouble going to do that next fall because I do take my laptop over there a lot.
