Remote Control?

Post by sweeney »

Okay, in the back of my laptop I have an infrared port. I was wondering if anyone knew of a program that use it like a remote control. Such as for TV's, VCR's, and such? I've looked around, but if they do exist, they're not easy to find.

sweeny..... ive looked into the exact same thing... cause when i had my laptop, it too had the port.

what i found isnt very pleasing..... aparently the infared port can only be as a com port for data communications...... meaning that it wont accept any form of remote control input. (hardware speaking, it just cant)

i looked for ever on trying to see if this could be changed somehow, but as far as i looked, i found nothing.... but if you do find something out, then by all measn, come back and tell me.... cause yeah.... i pretty much gave up from reading all the places that told me i coudnt do it

I have a Mac...but its about 5-6 yrs old. Anyway, it has a sensoring device on the front of it and whenever we used our sony remote near it, it would turn the computer on/off (whatever it was). It annoyed the crap out of us....and I never knew HOW it worked.....but it did do that....

I'm not sure the type of device is on the front of the mac...and I'm too lazy to go and see which Mac I have (it was before the G3 towers....Powermac something I believe.....)

Whats pretty wierd is how my iPAQ has an Infrared Port, and not only can it send/recieve, it can learn signals so that i could use them at a later time. Ah..., the good old times, before my iPAQ broke. I'm way to laza to get it fixed, but i'm planning on making $$$ this summer and buying a new one.

At most of the sites I looked into, they said it can be used as input...like to turn your volume up or down, or a bunch of stuff. I even downloaded one. Of course, I'm looking for the opposite, so I deleted it.
