Wrong Connection Speed?
Well, my laptop's harddrive died on me a few days ago...so until i get a new one, im using my desktop.. now..my modem wasn't working, so i took it out...and put in a 28.8 kbps modem. I figured it was better than nothing (barely). But, when i dial up....it says that im connected at 49.2 ...how is this possible? Is this a mistake on my computer? Can older modems really go faster than they were designed to? Whats the deal..?

See, thats what I thought, but in the Device Manager, it says its 28.8, and when i first put it in, it also said 28.8k.Plasma2002b wrote:to answer the question in short...... the modem was labeled wrong.
its technically impossible for the hardware to go at higher speeds like that. You have a 56k modem

well I think I might be able to answer the question here. In my old desktop it only has a 28.8. Even the slower modems have the codes inthem that let them connect to a much faster modem.
I change a lot of the registy code in mine to where it keep ping AOL for the fastest modem it could handle and my modem would ONLY accept this fast modems.
