i could be wrong:

when you format, things are gone at all, there still there, and can be found, as how they catch people with insurance fraud. for viruses, it usually works, but they say the only real way to make sure everything is gone, is fill your hard drive up, format, fill it up again, and format, this way the files get written over.

but i could be wrong, i'm sure someone hear will tell me that.

ur right if i read that correctly.

when u format, for instance, quick format, it only erases the FAT (or in other file systems the... uhh.. i 4got the word, TOC in laymans). the data is still there. theres software/hardware that people run to recover data on a harddrive.

if u do a full format or write 0s and 1s to the data, its still possible to recover it because of magnetic traces on the harddrive.

basically its possible if u got $$$$. its near impossible to get RID of ur data without destroying the harddrive
