It has been done. my home network is up and running and is beautiful.
So how was my house wired?
-Category 5 cable run to each phone jack (piggy backed in line to eachother) then sent straight out to the box as one line.
-Used only 4 necessary wires to each jack.
How Did i get a network to run along with cable internet connection being shared?
-Take the wall plate off and dismantle the jack.
- Send the dial tone to 1 pair of specific wires (pick a color and use it for every jack you plan to convert...i used brown/brown with white.)
- Wire in a new category 5 jack connector. WITHOUT wiring the pair you designated as dial tone wires.
-Jump the pair you didn't use.
-Plug in your category 5 wire....BINGO.
Took some time to figure it out, had a buddy of mine who works for a communications company bring his tools and we messed around. It's awesome now. Definetly surprised....by the way, my buddy says you are all stupid and obviously haven't called him to come to your house to help ya out haha. I said nah they're not stupid, just undereducated about the subject
You said it couldn't be done. But it's done. Telephone, cable internet and a home network shared on the very same physical line. Beat that.
