I feel stupid, but please help!!

I downloaded aim+ and i can only use the features through an im, i dont have any " +" icons or links on my buddy list, and when i go to preferences through an im I change my buddy list features, but they stay the same
HELP!!

This is because you have one of the 5.x series of AIM. If you want the "+" icon in your buddy list you must down grade to version 4.8 of AIM.
