Found a new Add-on: Messenger Plus

Post by fuuucckkers »

Looky what I found. A new add-on called Messenger Plus by some company called TPA Software.
It supports 4.7, 4.8, and the 5.x series of AIM.
Only downside is it doesn't have an Ad Removal feature. Well it sorta does but it replaces it with it's own smaller Ad for full access to all its features.

Here's a feature list.
- Enhanced IMs & Chat Rooms
- Fader for IMs, Chat, Profiles & Away Messages
- AIM Ad Removal
- IM & Buddy Alerts
- Custom Buddy Wavs
- IM News Ticker IM, Chat & Buddy Logging
- Log Password Protection
- Buddy Notes
- Buddy Nicknames
- My Weather

I downloaded it and it kept freezing up my computer and I had to restart, anybody know why? I'm runnin' AIM 5.2.3074, I tried it w/ and w/o AIM+, w/ similar results (similar b/c w/o AIM+ it took about 30 seconds longer to crash than it did w/ AIM+). Here's what would happen: Everything would freeze except the mouse, so I would ctrl-alt-del to close Messenger Plus which was Not Responding. Right when I did that, an error message would come up saying Explorer caused an error in KRNL386.EXE. Windows will now close explorer blah blah blah... but i can't click on close b/c it's frozen and I have to manually turn my computer off.

Eh, I can live without it so I just uninstalled it, although I really liked the tabbed IMs albeit they worked a total of three minutes.

I tried it, but I like using GAIM better. Plus I didn't have to pay for GAIM, but I would pay for AIM+.

It has tabbed windows, but its a serparate program. It has a history logger, nickname feature, you can run more than one copy at a time. Theres some other stuff but thoser are the main features. It takes a little getting used to and theres a small bug that I've found (nothing major and it might just be my computer). I like using it, there are also no adds. The website is http://gaim.sourceforge.net/. Sorry if this post is somewhere else  Also it has spell checking as you type (similar to Word).

It's not bad but I don't like the setup of it really. I think the decision point is that the names aren't alphabetical and I have OCD when it comes to that, so I can't use it. AIM+ and AIM 5.x it (still) is.

Yeah, that bothers me that the names aren't alphabetical. Maybe they'll fix that sometime.

That suprises me. I would have thought some one would come up with at least a add on to that. I really like gaim but my monitor is stuck (read computer crashes at any other) at 640x480 so I really cant use it on this computer. When I do get a chance to use gaim I love it (not enough to replace AIM+ though). I people in a order of how intresting the person is. Makes it so much more simple when I dont talk to a person for a while (or dont talk to a person because I DONT want to....
