Possible to delete an account?

Post by Jon8RFC »

Hey, I have a few AIM screen names that I want completely deleted and made available for others to register, and I've never known of a way to accomplish this...I've always thought that once a name is registered on the AIM network that it's ALWAYS gonna be there, am i wrong?

Nope.. your not wrong. to my knowledge... your screen name will always be there.

AOL / AIM might possibly do yearly screen name cleanups or something of the sort.. but probably only to names that havent been used in a LONG time

I remember a long long time ago I got an email from AOL telling me that a particular screen name that I had hadn't been used in 6 months and that if it wasn't used in so many days (don't remember how many) that it would be deleted. I'm not sure if they still do this or not. I know they have changed some policies around and deleted AOL account names cannot be reregistered with AIM anymore, etc.

That cannot be true because I remember not using my ScreenName for at least a year if not longer and they never deleted it.

I think the reason AOL does not delet old user names is so they can inflate there user count. Y else do you think they claim such a high user count. Hell they claim number that over 50% of the populatoin when not even that many peopel have internet access......

No wonder everytime I try and make a new one (most of the time for a friend or relative) it takes hours to find one that's not taken... People like you!
