Memberlist Idea

Post by xteq113 »

When yo go into the member list you can search by location by searching for the 1st letter of the location, but there should be a way were you can see all everyone from Pennsylvania for example instead of searching for the towns. Just an idea :D

Definitely a neat idea. It's true that the majority of users leave the location field blank here at the Big-O forums, but it would be useful if location were a required entry. Head over to phpBB's website, there may be an existing mod in their databases and/or forums. If not, you could submit your idea there and see if it gets added to a future version of phpBB or somone may take it upon themselves to make a mod :D.

It sounds like it would be fairly easy to make a mod do that (If you know the guts of phpBB). I bet if you posted it over at phpBB and someone actually decided to do it would only take a couple hours max to complete.

I think that most ppl that are somewhat familiar with how php and phpbb works are able to do it. I know that I can and it won't take me long either. The reason I know is beacuse I was working with the memberlist files and it is pretty straight foward...you just need to know what you are doing to get it done.

I like this idea, but to accomplish it, wouldn't you have to have separate fields for town/city and state?

When you search for users in the PMs and ACP you can use wild cards so:

P* = Phase - Phat
Ph* = Phase
* = Apple - Phase - Phat

So I doubt you would have to add fields... Depends on how you want it done.

this would definantly be easiest the way to go.

in the SQL statement that gets executed in the search function, just make an optioin that would do this......

Code: Select all

SELECT Member_Location FROM phpBB_Members WHERE field LIKE '$query'

just use the same function thats already in phpBB and just make it search the user table in the location fields.

(i dunno the specific names of the phpBB tables and stuff, so dont yell at me for gettin them wrong in the sqp reference)
