Ads everywhere and buttons and stuff. Eww!

I love the new "typing" feature. Not really too happy about the cosmetic changes. Help me Big-O get rid of the annoying adds and enable the buddy list to go back to the smaller width!

Hmmm, I d/led this and installed the other night, all I gotta say its about time aol changed the aim graphical interface(looks nice), took them long enough, and the typing indicator should have been there in the first place, not just in direct connect, well at least they are trying. Better not say anything else too much, last post I made got deleted. I'm still wandering why. Anyways I hope Aim + works with the new aim soon.

i'm sticking with the old version for now.

Okay, I just downloaded 5.0b and re-installed aim+, then realized it didnt work, so i came here, but upon further exploration I realized that in 5.0b with aim+ the cloning feature, and the transparency feature still work, other than that... Big-O, you guys rock, please release a compatible version soon!

iamvoyager: They're not -all- being closed; this one is still open.. see where I'm going with this?

The reports regarding AIM+ and AIM 5.0 are (unfortunately) accurate: the current version of AIM+ is not compatible with the latest AIM beta.

So far, it looks like:
- history (logging) does not work
- ad removal / buddy list cusomization does not work
- AIM Today supressor does not work
- other little stuff doesn't work (upgrade monitor, etc)

- cloning does work
- transparency works a little

The changes to AIM this time are pretty substantial, which is why we don't have a new AIM+ ready yet.

I installled the AIM 5 over the previous recent beta, AIM+ does work in the respect that logging conversations. I found that the history viewer for some reason cant not read the html files. but if you go into the history folder where AIM+ is installed you can manually open the html files and view them through your default web browser. as far as i can tell, the logging, for me atleast, hasnt been a problem. i hope this helps.

Way to go on your admin/moderator skills. I wish more boards I visit would do that so I don't have to jump around getting bits of info...

Good luck getting it all together and working...I wish they'da waited so I could've gotten my tabbed windows before dealing with this. Arugh.

Any word on whether or not you can turn the typing monitor off?

Logan 5: Thanks, I'm glad someone other than us appreciates our efforts to keep things organized. We certainly always hear from the upset folks whose posts get locked & redirected, because they didn't read the post right before it..

Although, for the record, Mark is responsible for almost all the administration of the board.

Also, it's funny that you want to turn the typing indicator off - most people seemed very happy to have it. Doesn't look like you can turn it off, AFAIK.

While I'm waiting for AIM + to come out with a new version, I decided to go ahead and see if I could remove those pesky ads and stock ticker in the new aim 5.0 beta myself and of course I did, it didn't take me that long to do it about a minute or two.
This is what it looks like after you do it.

Here are the instructions on how I did this:

****Make Sure you have aim closed when you do all of this.

1. Go to wherever you installed AIM (usually c:\program files\aim95\)
Delete the file "advert.ocm"
Make a copy of "admin.ocm"
Rename the copy of "admin.ocm" to "advert.ocm"
(got this info off of a website)

2. The next part I did myself and I'm sure you can do it too (make sure you have reshacker or restorator either one will do I used reshacker)
Open Reshacker and open the file "aimres.dll"
Go to Dialog then 323:1033
Then right click and delete the controls where the ads and stock ticker
are and then save the script, then save the file.


And like magic the ads and stock ticker are gone
This is a temporary solution until Aim plus does the real job.

Just in I found this file tonight while browsing the web, this is easier than that stuff up above for some people, but the author of this program does not remove the stock ticker for some reason but you can remove that manually if you want.
