I don't use an animated Avitar, but I noticed a few days ago that all the animation stopped on those members that do. I visit this board on two different Windows 2K machines (one at work and one I built) and a WinXP HE laptop.

It could be the browser and version of the browser.

I'm running the latest version of IE6 with all the available patches from M$'s site installed.

Personally I don't care much for animated Avitars, they kind of annoy me. We get inundated with enough moving objects on the web (namely ADS)

Unless that's something that gets installed without the user knowing, then I know that I haven't installed Proxomitron.

But I do know that I'm behind a pretty tight Proxy server at work and a firmware firewall (Linksys) at home.

I know this is an old thread, but I finally figured out why the animated Avitars weren't working on my PC. There is a setting in IE (I have IE 6.something) that turns the animation off. I found it if you go to Tools->Internet Options. Then click on the 'Advanced' tab. Scroll down until you get to the grouping of options labeled 'Multimedia'. Look for the checkbox that says 'Play animations in web pages'. If that is checked, then the Avitars became animated again.

The post never indicated if a solution was found. So, I decided to post what I just discovered
