Guitar Gods

Post by DADINK13 »

Eddie Van Halen / Van Halen
Jimmy Page / Led Zeppelin
BB King
Stevie Ray Vaughan /Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble
Jimi Hendrix
Eric Clapton / Cream
Pete Townshend / The Who
Slash / Guns n' Roses
Angus Young / AC/DC
Carlos Santana / Santana

Who you think is the Guitar Godand why.

I love all of the guitarists listed in the poll, but if I had to pick just one, I'd go with Jimmy Page. The man is a virtuoso with a guitar in his hands. A combination of speed, flexiblity, performance, accuracy, and just plain great playing is what propelled Page and the rest of Led Zeppelin to the top as being hailed as "The Greatest Band Ever."

Second runner up would go to Eddie Van Halen. Self-taught, he is the master of techniques such as pick scratching, two-hand tappings, and the ever impressive "Drill Technique."

Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi, both are soooo good/amazing but w/ different styles. I picked Jim on the poll only b/c he taught himself how to play(I think Stevie did too) and he did it backwards, he played a righty guitar lefty..until he made some money and had them custom made.

That style of guitair playing became offically known as Voodoo style--where you take a right-handed guitar, restring it and play it left-handed.

Here's another interesting tidbit: Fender made a limited edition Voodoo Stratocaster. It was a replica of Jimi's Fender American Stratocaster with the stock inverted. I'm not totally sure if you can still get them though..try searching on eBay or something.

I think The Edge from U2 is a very talented guitarist. Maybe he doesn't fit in the list above, but I gotta give him his props.
