Merge Topics MOD

You know how we used to get repeat requests when AIM+ was still being developed.... Well, I just found a mod that can be installed on phpbb that allows the moderator to merge a topic with another. This way if something worthwhile is suggested, the moderator could add those thoughts onto the original request thread.

I found the MOD at http://www.phpbbhacks.com/downloads/899.zip and tested it on my forums @ http://horizonboard.musicalhorizon.com . It's running version 2.0.3 (not 2.0.4, I can't get it to revert the version number after I had to downgrade because 2.0.4 didn't work correctly with some of my MODs). I hope this doesn't cause any problems in 2.0.4 for those of you who use it.

That is awesome! I will have to try that out at my boards...but not sure if they will correctly work considering its nuke based...but I sure darn hope it will!

We have considered this mod a few times in the past and have always come to the conclusion: to wait for the next 'big' release of phpBB, which is supposed to include a built-in merge topics function.

lol...and the phpBB dev team is currently using the following phrase describing when phpBB 2.2.x will be out:

Just out of curiousity, but what is your reasoning for not installing the mod? I've seen no problems with it and at least until they come out with the new phpbb, you'll have the feature....

I think its like Mark said... they're waiting for the release of the newest phpBB since its supposed to be a feature of the release.

Not sure if that's exactly right, but its my guess...

The boards have been up this long, so why add to it when theres nothing seriously wrong with it?

If merge topics is just one of several features that they want then times 15 (average install time of a mod) by whatever number, and thats could be a lot of hours saved.

Hmmm... just realized that it doesn't add the topics to the bottom of the original post. It places them chronologically in time. So if a post was made in the original post after the second post was created, it would be in the middle. For example, the message would be appended like the following (times occur all on the same day):

AAAAAA - Original thread 9:33AM
BBBBBB - Second Thread 10:00AM
AAAAAA - Original thread 11:00PM

if they were merged at 11:30PM.

Just figured I'd let you know. Cuz, then maybe some posts might not be seen.

Hey all,

I've finally figured out the bugs in which mods work with phpBB 2.0.4 . It took a long time, but I finally got it to work. But the Merge Mod on phpbbhacks.com does not work with 2.0.4. I attached a version that I found that works perfectly in 2.0.4 (on a heavily modded board). Plus this versoin allows you to merge to other forums (not just the one it's in) and also allows you to select specific posts (not just the entire thread).

I searched through lots of forums to find this one, so I figured I'd save everyone some time.
