I like knoppix. It's easier to install then Windows. LOL. Takes a little while to start up. On my moms 2 year old laptop it took a little while to start programs. thats b/c the laptop has a slow cdrom. but other then that its good.

um you don't install knoppixl, you just run it off the CD.... But I guess that would be easier to install than Windows!! :D

Michael wrote:Better yet, since Linux generally uses up much fewer resources than Windows, try to find a computer that is several years old that the owner was thinking of throwing out or giving away, and install Linux on that. Linux can run on really old computers, and you'd be amazed at the performance boost you can get out of a computer by running Linux on it instead of Windows.
lol im a bit late
this it totally true. i got redhat7 on an old 486 and it runs much better than win98se. win98se never crashed on it, but it was hella slow and w/ pws it froze every hour. now w/ redhat 7 and apache, i never once crashed

the file from http://www.cpubuilders.com/support/cbic ... guide.html

Extract the files using

tar -zxvf ltmodem - 8.26a9.tar.gz

Change to the directory just created

cd ltmodem - 8.26a9

Extract source files necessary to installation

tar zxvf source.tar.gz // I got to here but I don't know how to do the rest... can you help me?

Build the kernel modules

./build_module // all i have to type here is "build_module" and it does it for me?
Install the modules using

./source/ltinst2 // it could not find ltinst2 program

Setup the modules to load automatically using

./utils/lt_autoload

Verify that the configuration is correct using

./utils/lt_checkout
