Media Player Media Library

Post by Master Jedi »

Is there a way to copy the Media Library (index of files) from one computer to another, or make more than one computer use the same media library on a server?

Definitely.

At least, I remember doing it with 7.0 and (I think) 8.0.

I'd imagine the files are located in the 'Documents & Settings' folder..

I don't mean the actual music files, but the "Media Library" (*.wmdb) file that stores the track names and stuff. I can't find any reference to it in the registry. It's kept here (for NT based machines):

C:\Documents and Settings\%USERNAME%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player\CurrentDatabase_59R.wmdb

I don't want to have to remove everything from the library, and add all the files with their network paths (rather than c:\...) and then copy the wmdb to all the profiles on all the computers.
