I've been reading these boards for like a year now but I've never bothered to post before...

But does anybody have any advice on what webcam to get, I already have one but my friend is looking for one (say for around $50) and I'm also looking for advice on what program to use to see each other.

thanks for any help

Wee-Cam sucks... Then again it was free, and my only real complaint is the drivers were near impossible to find 5 years after I had lost the CD...

I guess the real question is do they actually sell them (I can't seem to find their retail prices)...

well I guess my real question isn;t the type of cam but what type of program (i.e. netmeeting, etc.) to use for video conferecncing/conversation, whatever you want to call it.

Personal stuff (friends and such) or... less personal (work and such)?

friends and such like that, more personal

probably would never use it for more professional things such as work

I prefer Yahoo Messengers built in Video chat feature.
It's fast.. and if you have one of the new Logitech Cams.. you can turn on a feature called Super Video Mode or something like that.. which allows you to recieve higher resolutions and faster FPS.

thanks, I tried yahoo and it worked well

but when I go to use it in a few weeks I'm gonna be on different networks, have you had any problems getting the video to work through firewalls (I know the supervideo won't).

I lived on the college campus in the spring and there wasn't a problem using it behind firewalls.

I have used Yahoo through networks... Even ones that are "supposed" to block it... If that doesn't work you can always go through a proxy...

Thats what my problem was back when I tried using MSN for it is I was on campus at the time and it wouldnlt work through the firewalls.

for the most part I know what I'm doing and talking about but I've never used a proxy, think you could give me a quick explanation, phase?
