I don't reallie see how a blank screen could be annoying... but that's just me. Although, screen savers in general don't bother me since I am not at my computer when they go on.

You could always just set your screen saver to a black screen. That's not annoying.

Ok, so I tried this out. I went on AIM and ICQ (although my ICQ was via trillian which could be a factor).
