The Future of Big-O Software and AIM+
Moderators: Big-O Ryan, Big-O Mark
I know I am new to posting to this site and all, but I have been reading everything that has been posted since i first found out about aim+ over the summer. I think it is a true shame that there will not be an aim+ 3 released.
My bets are that AOL, one of the worst companies in the world, was giving them a hard time. I really do not care for the time warner company.
I am a big fan of open source. I wish windows was open source, then maybe we wouldn't have to deal with microsoft either, unfortunatelly we are not that lucky, and the big companies still over run the little ones.
If i could, i would make it so everything is open source, so people who code for a living like myself would be able to fix some of the thousands of problems that occur with software like aol.
I really enjoy aim plus, it was a great program that got rid of all of those terribly annoying banners and stuff that aol decides it can make money off of from people who don't really care to look at them.
If anyone has a copy of an older aim install file, like before version 5, could I have a copy? I just got my laptop back, and I got stuck with the nasty new version, and I really detest the im environments they have!
Anyhow, good luck guys, and I wish you the best.[/list]

Re: The Future of Big-O Software and AIM+
Well I understand that you guys are having a hard time, and are getting into life, GOOD LUCK ! To make it easier, why dont you just shutdown your site and when we access it just post your Porgrams, inludluing AIM+ 3.0! I know it sounds like a bad idea, but it will get you to stop worring about the site and get working on AIM+, and when all that is done connect the disscution board and so on! And you should also make a back up site for our use, incase the problems on 12/11/02 happens again, it doesnt need to have all the features, get a free one at Geocites or something, I bet we wont care! Well thanks for hearing me out! I hope others agree!!! Oh yeah, F**K THEM HACKERSBig-O Mark wrote:Unfortunately for everyone anticipating the next release of our popular AIM+ application (including us), AIM+ 3.0 has been indefinitely postponed. Big-O Software has two major reasons for this decision, one that we have been attempting to work around, the other is simply unacceptable.
First, a huge difference between Big-O Software last year and Big-O Software this year is that both Ryan and I have completed college and have been thrust into the real world. In order to survive in the real world, we have both taken jobs that consume massive amounts of our time that in the past at least partially could be devoted to the support and development of our software. Spare time has been scarce, and it is key for Big-O Software, as it is a hobby that pays us nothing. This part, however, we were willing to work around, so that we could continue to provide quality software for ourselves and our users.
Second, over the past few months, Big-O Software has been attacked repeatedly in various ways, including telephone, email, and through the website. Recently, with the impending release of AIM+ 3.0, the individuals responsible for these attacks have taken the liberty of posting personal information about us on the internet, and the frequency and intensity of the attacks have grown exponentially. We have had a lot of fun working with the users to develop AIM+, but if this price we have to pay for our effors, then it is simply not worth it to us. We have invested a lot of time and effort into AIM+, without expecting or getting anything tangible back. There is nothing wrong with that, as we never expected anything other than our own personal use of the software. However, we are now experiencing very tangible negative effects. This is the unacceptable part; it automatically made up our minds for us.
In conclusion, Big-O Software has indefinitely postponed the further development of AIM+. We plan to continue to work out bugs in the current version, including AIM 5.x compatibility, but at this point these are our final plans for the future of AIM+.
hkSFV will continue to be fully supported, and we already have plans for future releases. Big-O Software also has plans and ideas for other new applications that we expect you will enjoy even more than AIM+.
To those who have supported us, in any way, throughout the development of AIM+: thank you, you made it very fun while it lasted, and we're sorry for the disappointment that this must bring. It certainly was not the way we had planned on celebrating AIM+'s 1 year anniversary. Unfortunately, the recent negativity and personal invasions have made this troubling decision an easy one for us to make.
blah
they should be honest to the public. not tell us that there's a release on a specific date, and then later we find out it wasn't possible b/c of XYZ. XYZ doesn't matter. that first deadline was a fraud! stupid big-o... FOR LYING.

Re: blah
XYZ does matter, genius. They had the programme finished, but because of problems, they decided not to release it. They tried to make the date work, but the issues kept occuring. It is ultimately their decision, not yours. Suck it up and find another programme.davedog wrote:they should be honest to the public. not tell us that there's a release on a specific date, and then later we find out it wasn't possible b/c of XYZ. And seriously, if you're not going to be positive, I say "bugger off" again.
