Seeing if my buddy is typing

Post by spear33 »

I was at my friends house and he was talking to some one on AIM + and it showed when they were typing. I don't think he was directly connected to them. How come it doesn't do this on my AIM?

Depends on the version. Anything below AIM5 will show a "your buddy is typing" indicator when you're directly connected. AIM5 supports a "buddy typing" indicator that tells you when your buddy is typing a message.

Would AIM+ take away the typing indicator on AIM 5.x?

Nope. It's probably because the option isn't checked under "Privacy."

You're probably right on this one. By default, in the Privacy options of AIM Preferences under 'Allow users to see ...' the '... that I am typing a response' box is unchecked. If both you and your buddy have this option enabled, you will both see the typing indicator while IMing each other. It's unfortunate that this option is off by default, because the typing indicator is one of the best features of AIM 5.x.

Yes I must say that teh typing indicator is one of the best features of AIM5.x (it can be turned off I always thought it was on) but that typing indicator is something I choosing to live with out because the AIM+ has more stuff that I can not live with out (history, cloning, no adds ect)

Speaking of the typing indicator, I just realized this. With one of my friends that uses AOL I can see if they are typing. I thought it was only with AIM, but that could be b/c it's turned off by default and all the people except this one leave it like that. Can anyone enlighten me?
