Well on the harasser part we now it not aol. it been answered in the chat summery (sorry i did not grab the link before hand so you just going to have to look)punkroksmiley wrote:Even though you guys have decided to cancel the production of AIM+ 3.x, I'm still happy with ya guys. you made a great program which thousands of us used, and I for one would just like to say thank you. Those harassers (AOL? Random assholes?) should rot, because they obviously never used ur great stuff. well good luck in the real world. Hopefully you'll find something you can use in the future and do really well. the real world is boring anyway

I was wondering about that when I read the second post.Plasma2002b wrote:Axilla wrote:I use DeamAIM now and don't care if AIM+ 3.0 ever gets released or not, I just wanna see how long this thread will go.Axilla wrote:I stay here because I like AIM+ more than DeadAIM, and I still believe that at some time, whether it be in a month or a year, AIM+ 3.0 will be released, or at least an update to get it to AIM 5.x compatibility.

Can you clear this up for us Axilla?
Yes, its quite simple.
Right now, I use DeadAIM, am happy with it, and based on it, I don't care if AIM+ 3.0 gets released, because what I use now is good, and I dont need anything else.
However, since AIM+ 3.0 will be better than DeadAIM, I am staying here in hopes that it will get released.

Or can do what Airitch did or you can do what I did and a lot of members at this board are doing. We are using AIM+ with AIM 4.8 or working wiht AIM+v2 with AIM 5.x (Me I doing AIM+ with 5.x. I dl an out side loger and I uses AIM+ for cloning) Now my opian on dead AIM I will not restate (I posted it in enough places already)Airitch930 wrote:too bad so sad, get over it. get used to the fact that its not coming out, go get dead AIM like the rest of us already did. I am very sorry that people had to do that but everyone else, grow up and move on.
There is one other thing we can teel from Airitch post and that is she did not read the DEAD AIM thread or any where else were we posted... most of us are still (and will contune to use) AIM+ v2

i still haven't found any particularly valid reason to DL aim 5.x at the moment...all the core features are exactly the same, and my guess is that the newer version takes up more memory running in the background, anyhow, which i really am not a big fan of. i like keeping my resources for more important things, like my asian porn server.
anyhow, things like direct connect and send file were brought around several versions back, so why waste my time with a version that's not compatible with aim+?
or maybe i'm just weird...

It has already been mentioned here and somewhere in this thread.jtkooch wrote:Why don't they open source the code and let someone else pick up where they left off? It seems to be a very popular software and there really is no reason to let it die.

I use 5.x. I would switch back but AIM5.x has a few things in it that can make me put up with the lost of some of AIM+ feature. Naming I find it helpful to know when my friends are typing. I keeps me from messing them up and I know that htey are responding....collegegrrl wrote:i still haven't found any particularly valid reason to DL aim 5.x at the moment...all the core features are exactly the same, and my guess is that the newer version takes up more memory running in the background, anyhow, which i really am not a big fan of. i like keeping my resources for more important things, like my asian porn server.

oh boy
wow this is one freaking long thread. and im going to post a very long message which is entirely my opinion so if u dont wanna read it.... dont.
thinking about this thing logically, there really is no valid reason to completely kill this program.
1. legal problems
extremely unlikely considering its not illegal to make programs such as these, but lets say aol did have something to do with it.... they wouldnt hide the fact that aol is filing a lawsuit... so umm no... next
2. hackers
not even a problem. there is only so much you can do, and obviously dos or ddos attacks can do nothing more than temporarily stop access to a server. unless somebody somehow found a way into both of their computers and deleted the source... but then again that would be stupid of them not to tell us that.
3. life threatening
ok so for some reason some idiots actually know who these programmers are in real life and they dont like it and yada yada yada. there are plenty of solutions for this. RELEASE THE SOURCE! if you do not plan on continuing a program, ever, and are making no money off of it, then stop being microsoft, and release the source. simple as that. lets assume they get more threats if they release the source... ok. leak the source! throw it out to some random people and it will be out and around in no time, just like DeCSS. or just give a hacker, or me, your ip address and what operating system your running as well as your username and password and somebody will take the source for you.
those are basically the only three reasons for stopping. and there are all solutions to all of the above. im also a computer programmer, no im not giving out my name or etc. but problems like these happen ALL THE TIME. learn to get over them. what you are doing is not illegal. AOL is not dumb enough to hire hitmen, and most programmers should not be stupid enough to surcome to threats as you could just post where the threats are coming from and then if they do come true for some odd reason (which they wont), its plain and simple who did what. i dunno, maybe they lost the source, maybe they dont feel like working on it anymore and are too embarassed to say it. theres no real reason to stop development on a program unless u are legally told not to, and its obvious that they were not legally told not to. guys.... welcome to the programming world.... people threaten... people bitch (much like im doing)... people do all sorts of shit. get used to it. its all empty. all you are doing by stopping this is letting all the immature little 15 year old idiots win. thats about it. the mob doesnt care about AIM+, neither do gangs. either its a competitor, AOL, or some random crazy little teenagers who should just be caught and then beaten the shit out of. either way, all this crap is just a waste of time and ive really never heard anything this funny in such a long time. and if for some reason im completely off, then for the love of god just slip a friend a disk with the source and delete it off your computer and never think about AIM+ again. walla... problem solved. your either being too scared and making all us programmers look like complete idiots, you are lying to everybody, or youre microsoft. which is it
