massive memory leakage on winxp

Post by scratch »

OS: WinXP
AIM+ version: 2.2.1
AIM version: 4.7.2480, but I've been able to reproduce it on other versions
Steps:
1) Open task manager, look at virtual memory usage of AIM process
2) IM someone, and watch virtual memory usage, it will jump by a few hundred K
3) Have a conversation, while watching virtual memory usage, it will slowly rise
4) Close the IM
Expected Results: virtual memory usage goes back to approximately what it was before you IMed someone.
Actual results: virtual memory usage drops by approximately 4K

I have actually had my AIM process use over 400 megabytes of virtual memory when leaving it open for about a week. Is anyone else seeing this?

I've been running 8 days on 2k... AIM is using 10MB of MEM, and 6MB of VM... AIM+ is using 1.5MB and .5MB respectively.
Puns don't kill people. People kill people... usually with guns, knives, or something else physically threatening... puns just don't quite cut it... unlike knives, which cut a lot of things...

I have no had any problems with memory usage in Windows XP either. Perhaps you should try re-installing it if you haven't already. And make sure you have the most current version of AIM which is 4.8.2790. I know you said you have had this problem on several versions, but I don't know which versions those are. I had problems with memory leaks in a couple of the 4.7.X releases also.

I know AIM 4.x itself has memory leaks in WindowsXP, regardless of whether or not AIM+ is running.

This must just be in XP because I have had 0 memory problems with Win2k on several different machines.
