This is actually caused by two known bugs: Preferences Clearing, and hiding comments pane.
Preferences get reset, and you end up with no language, which is why you lose all your text.
A bug in the code that hides the right side of the window causes the controls to be in the wrong place when you start hkSFV.
Thank you for reporting this, though, and sending the screenshots! Both of these bugs have been fixed, and you shouldn't have these problems in the next version.
As a temporary solution, you can uninstall and re-install hkSFV. Your preferences will only get cleared when you go into the preferences dialog and do not look at every tab before closing it. You can keep the controls from being in the wrong place by not choosing 'hide comment/result pane' (expanding the window).
The next version should ready soon, the only thing holding it back is Win9x support, and if I can't get that working in the next couple days I'll try to just release the fixes that I do have.
