Ctrl + W = Close Window

Post by Matt »

One thing i would also like to see in Aim+ (not very urgent) is an option in the prefs or something that when you hit Ctrl + W, it closes the window, not brings up the font menu. Make the font menu close with Ctrl + D or something (no reason i chose D...as far as i know, Ctrl + D doesn't do anything...i could be wrong though). This would be very convenient. I know that you can hit Esc or Alt + F4, but I am used to the Ctrl + W for closing windows.

Comments...questions...thoughts are all welcome

Eh .. it wouldnt be hard to impliment.. but Im not one for using keyboard shortcuts..
I mean, how hard is it to just move the mouse pointer over the little X and click. Not very at all. I think the whole idea of keyboard shortcuts is just laziness.

its not so much as pure laziness, as it is that i dont like using the mouse when i dont need to. I am so used to all the keyboard shortcuts...and its just annoying when i hit Ctrl + W and it brings up the font menu. does anyone else have this problem or am i one of a kind??

just hit escape. That closes the IM window and it's less key strokes then ctrl+w

I think he is saying that he is so used to ctrl+w that he keeps hitting that instead of ctrl+f4 or any other combo. (sorry if this is real messed up but this keyboard sucks big time\0

I am personally a fan of the ESC key. Its a one key combination and the only time it doesn't work is when you have an away message up.

Why are you in favor of the ctrl+w?

Do you use it for some other program?

I use ctrl+w for most things...i.e. closing browser windows, closing paint programs, closing Word documents, closing basically anything I have open. Lately I've gotten used to hitting Esc...so its no big deal. I still occasionally come across the font menu, though

In all honesty, the mouse is a VERY inefficient device, keyboard shortcuts makes doing things much easier, it isn't laziness! But yes, hitting ESC does close the window :)
