Another obversation on this problem:

I've recently noticed that when you view the forums using multiple instances of Internet Explorer, it can make the new posts show up incorrectly. Sometimes posts you just made will show up as unread, sometimes everything gets marked read, and sometimes everything is fine.

I use multiple IE's all the time on these boards and I've never run into a problem, although I could just not be noticing.

I noticed when I run Mulitpe IE windows on Big-o Forums that sometime my post will be regeist as a new post in the other IE windows. Or when I close out right after I post my post will come up as new.

The only time I open a second IE window is when I'm making a post and I need to refer to another post in a different thread.

no kidding.....

these boards are just a little too massive to keep track of every thread.....

in a way thats good, but without the 'new post status' images, it would be total chaos

I have a board that I administer and therefore rely on the new post notifications. That board automatically clears all your new posts notifications if you "sit still" too long. If someone posts a really long message and it takes you awhile to read it and process and response, all the other messages have been cleared. Then I have to go start looking at dates and times to see if I've read it already.

you need to tell the administrator to set the cookie session lenght to a larger number.... the default is set at 5 minutes....

you can change it at any time through the admin panel
