There a reason my Screen name is not on this site anymore. I can think of a few reason why they are charging about that bandwith.

1st. He could be using to much bandwith and the univerty and they are telling him that they are going ot start chargin him for all of it over the amount he allowed.

2nd. He could be grautating this month witch means he looses his free hosting and he needs the money to set up the site on another server.

I think both those answers are the logical answers (I would of posted them last time but I needed to run.

It's not uncommon for Colleges to have big backbone lines going through them though... Right? If the College is anywhere near the their hosts site it *could* have to get onto their line to get to the host's IP.

Like I said over at their forums though... It doesn't matter if they are lying are not... It's their program to do with as they please.

I don't think that's common at all. The only traffic I've seen a trace on go through or come from a college is when the server is there, or your the machine doing the trace. But never anything like that. Most if not all colleges are behind some sort of firewall to keep out unwanted traffic.

I know at my old school, the network admin had blocked all ports that are known to be used by hackers, and had a packet filter on our firewall, which also caused a serious slowdown in incoming traffic...

I still doubt it--but then again, that's England. Who knows what they do over there.

I don't see why theres so much drama between DeadAIM and AIM+

I used to use AIM+, and still would if it was supported with 5.0, but I use DeadAIM now, and continue to post on both forums, where some of the people think I am moderately amusing.

If anyone from here wants to start posting on jdennis.net, just say "Hey I'm a friend of Axilla" and you don't have to be there soley to "bash" them.

I have to agree with Axilla. I didn't join there just to bash. I don't even use AIM addons anymore so I'm just around for the ride. But really, people from here do advertise AIM+ a lot on that forum. Now, don't we get mad when people come around here pushing DeadAIM? So why is it okay if we go over there and advertise AIM+?

I'm agreeing with Michael on this one. Just by mentioning Big-O or AIM+ on the DeadAIM forums is a verbal "endorsement" of the product (unless you are slamming them). I also believe they have every right to slam AIM+ in their own forums! It is not uncommon to slam the competition on support forums. But to go in and raise a stink trying to defend your product on the competition's website is just not cool. It makes you look like you are just trying to sell something or that you are immature.

The frequent posters over there are probably just as loyal to DeadAIM as the frequent posters over here are loyal to AIM+.

Personally, I find it awefully funny how the reactions toward's Jim & Co's decision to charge for their product are very similar to the reaction toward's Ryan and Mark's decision to halt production of AIM+ 3.0. The accusations of deception, the conspiracy theories, etc.

My 2 cents is that we should just butt the heck out of what is going on over there. Let them slam AIM+ if it makes them feel good, because the people coming here to download AIM+ aren't getting those recommendations by reading the JDennis forums. They are getting the recommendations from their friends and families.
