GoodAIM will work with AIM 5. It does the idle thing. You just have to do something to get it to work. GoodAIM doesnt correctly set up AIM 5's connection settings. So do this:
1) Go here and download and install GoodAIM: http://pepperell.net/goodaim/goodaim_inst_1.2.exe
2) Run GoodAIM
3) Start AIM, but don't log in. At the log-in screen, theres a "Setup" button, click that. In the category "Sign/Off" (it should be the one shown when you first go to the setup window), there's a "Connection" button in the lower right. Click that. On the box that pops up, enable the check box "Connect using proxy". Set Host to "localhost", set Port to "11080", and make sure Protocol is set to "SOCKS 4". Hit ok on all the dialogs.
4) Sign on. (If it says "Connection refused by proxy" then GoodAIM isn't running. Run GoodAIM and try to log in again)
5) Right click the GoodAIM icon in the system tray (by the clock, it should look like a Bullseye) and select "Idle..." from the popup menu. Enter your idle time and press the Idle button. As long as you continue to use the computer it will report you as being idle. If you actually go idle and come back, you won't be idle anymore.
