CD Burner Problems

I recently got a new TDK USB-External CD-RW drive. I hooked it up to my laptop (Compaq Armada) running XP. When I try to burn to it, all the programs will only write an image, and won't burn to the disc. Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong?

Oh, man...Imagine if someone was to TROUBLESHOOT... I got it working..
