how do i save my buddyicon?

im in the process of reformatting my computer and i want to keep the buddy icon i currently have. problem is i lost the .gif and you cant find this pic online. anyhelp would be great. thanks

Depends on the OS you're running.

If you're running WinXP, it would be in:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Aim\<screename>\picture

Just backup the whole folder.

As for Win98, I don't remember anymore.

For Windows 98 :

C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Aim\<Screen name>\picture\ <file.ID>

I beleive the AOL Servers keep your buddy icon URL on the srver because I can go to my Grandparents house and My Buddy Icon is still with me.

its like this.... your buddy icon gets downloaded by people when you load it on your SN. The server doesnt save it though.

The reason that its still viewable when you change computers is because you dont have one set up on your computer at your grandpas house. So everybody sees the most recent version of your buddy icon that they downloaded.

The aim client doesnt get rid of the buddy icons until either the user deletes them or another one is getting put in its place

Tell that to the computer I did a format on Brian... When I installed AIM it already had my icon set

yeahh and when i got my new computer n set up everything it had my icon for me so it must be saved on the server...b4 i dont think it was but now maybe it is...maybe it always has been...haha i dont know

Yes, your icon is stored on the server as of the release of AIM 5.
