how could someone intercept your IMs that you would even care if they read it or not. Wish I knew how to intercept someones. I know the password and all, but it does me no good if they are not on my computer (which logs all IMs)

depending on your network setup, it is actually VERY easy to intercept im's

Well, it's not that hard. For example, if you are in the workplace, here's an article that talks about how your employer might be watching:

That's not really cool, but like Plasma2002b mentioned, it's actually very easy to intercept all of your communications, as with most shared network configurations.

Securing the IMs is just knowing that someone isn't watching, in case u say something casual that turns out to be a big deal to someone else. (Like talking about your boss)
