WINE

Post by z8c5 »

I'm very new to Linux.

I'm using Redhat Linux 9, and I was wondering if anyone could possibly give me some instructions on how to install WINE. I hear it doesn't exactly work that great with many programs. Only two things I don't have right now on Linux that I had on Windows, that I want, is KaZaA Lite & Counter Strike.

The MAIN thing I need from my Linux is, I need to learn how to Access my FAT32 formatted drive ( has my Mp3s & Videos on ).

If anyone could give me some instructions It would be very appreciated.

If you'd just like to IM me my aim s/n is be3

Thanks.

Well.. as for accessing other harddrives.. I know that in Mandrake, I have a program called Harddrake -- which is basically the Device Manager equivelant to Windows.

It detects your hardware and lets you configure it.
The only thing you really need to do is goto the console (the DOS prompt style'ish screen) and type: mount, device, device path

the device would normally be in sequental order. For me, my harddrives are listed as "hda" and "hdb" and the device path you can put basically anywhere.. just make sure its accessible from the general user accounts (not just Root)

My device path is set up to "/mnt/Windows"
starting at the root folder

So an exampe for you might be (although I'm not sure about RedHat as I use Mandrake) -- mount hdb /mnt/mp3s

And as a point to note, its always best to use lowercase when naming folders, drives and mount points.. because the names are CaSe SeNSiTiVe -- unlike Windows.

I put the mount hdb /mnt/mp3s and I get --

mount hdb /mnt/mp3s
mount: only root can do that

I'm not big on Linux, but that error means that you need "root" administrative privileges. Log on as root.
