China:Space
Intresting/Silly/Stupid/Twist on a current news story, that I thought some might get a kick out of:
http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/space/09/3 ... index.html
But wait... The news story didn't say what he would be... A "Chinaut" perhaps (Please no one take offence)?

How about a Chinese Astronaut??PhaseDMA wrote:But wait... The news story didn't say what he would be... A "Chinaut" perhaps (Please no one take offence)?
I think it's cool though. We need more nations going into space.. makes more for competition to get things done faster, etc.
Also, I read on Slashdot about a week ago, France(I think) is also working on a space program, they're set to launch for their first time early next year I believe.

The shuttle should launch with in the next 3 days, and is set for tomorrow (They have given them selfs from the 15 though the 17 to launch).
In related news -
The "secret launch pad" is not where everyone thought it was (Go figure)
They have scrapped having (offical anyways) TV feeds of the launch
The menu has been revealed (most importent part of course )

CNN says that this may cause a "space race"... I'm trying to figure out what they are going to race to...
The moon... Sorry already done..
Launch a space station? Sorry...
Make a outpost on the moon (as suggested by China)? Don't think the US would be very happy... After all they were the first ones on it, as to me that says they can claim it... Even if China says the US would have to go back to offically claim it, I'm sure the US could pull off that stunt in no more then 10 days (And not kill the poor guys trying to land)... You don't really think the US just throws out their old landing pods do you? Better yet you don't really think the US doesn't have landing pods for Mars (The United States isn't one to do something quickly when they have plenty of time)...
China needs to take a quick glance and realize the only way their going to become the "new space power" is if the United States steps to the side...
They also need to admit that they knew the US knew about this a long time before either nation would admit (China comes off to me more of a nation that would like to all out stun the World... (In BREAKING NEWS China has just launched a shuttle into space with someone on board...)).
