Ok so I came to check up on the status of my favorite sfv program and there has been no updates since 2002?
Would you think about releasing it to open source?

Based on AIM+ I can tell you right now they won't release it to open source. I don't know what is currently going on with them (real life has them in a corner, or just maybe trying to create more intrest), but Ryan has not been around in a very long time, and Mark hasn't been around in a while (but has been around a lot more recently then Ryan).
I'm sure you have seen the main site... Don't have a clue what that means...
