GAIM is a over hyped program. Once again "It's Linux - It's great" while "It's Windows - It sucks" (Yes I know AOL makes AIM for Linux).

It is .. eh?

Ok. let's look at the features.
(Note: not all features are listed, because they're the same as the AIM client)

1. Buddy Aliasing
2. Smiley Themes
3. Ignore IM colors / fonts faces / font sizes
4. Highlight Misspelled Words
5. Sorting Buddy List by ABCs, Status, Logsize, and None.
6. Raise the Buddy List Window on events (Login/Logout)
7. Enable/Disable numbers in groups
8. Enable/Disable showing Buddy Icons, Warning Levels, Idle Times, and Idle Buddies.
9. IMs are Tabbed.
10. Chats are Tabbed. (Can also make IMs and Chats in the same tabbed Window)
11. Ability to show the buttons on the IM windows as Pictures, Text, or Pictures and Text.
12. Raising the IM window on Event.
13. Ability to Hide IM windows on message sending.
14. Enable/Disable Buddy Icons
15. Enable/Disable Buddy Icon Animation
16. Buddy Typing Notification
17. Logging (Real Time) for IM, and Chats.
18. Ability to strip HTML tags from Logs.
19. Logging features -- SignOn/SignOff, Idle/Un-Idle, Away/Come back, Logging own signOns/Idleness, awayness. Also ability for individual log files for each buddies signons.
20. Sounds - Same as AIM, but also sound when someone says your name in a chat.
21. Ability to define number of seconds beore sending auto-response.
22. Ability to Enable/Disable auto-responses at all.
23. Ability to only send auto-response when idle.
24. Ability to auto-response in active convos.
25. Idle time reporting -- None(disables idle status), GAIM use, X use(OS use)
26. The major factor for me... PLUGINS.

A few of the Plugins I'll describe.
-Remote Control. If you're at someone elses house, you can login to your GAIM client, and put up an away / change away message.

-Idle Maker -- define the amount of time to be idle.

-Mouse Gestures -- Define GAIM fucntions with specific mouse movements.

-Text Replacement -- Replaces outgoing messages according to user-defined rules.

Also... another major factor. If you know the PERL language, you can write your own plugins.

Does that seem over hyped to you??
That just seems like a shit load of features to me.
