AIM at school.

Alright, I have a laptop, so I bring it to my school, and on the occasion that I have free time, plug into their T1 connection. I used to sign onto aim, and surf until I had to get to class. For some reason, about a week ago, AIM won't go through. It gets to the second step in the logon, "Verifying Name and Password" and doesn't do anything for 2 minutes, then says It couldn't connect. My name and password are fine, as I can connect at home with no problem. I don't think its a firewall because 1) It gets to the second step, 2)I can connect through AIM Express. Anyone have any ideas?

Your school must have been monitoring people that have used AIM.. and decided to set up a Proxy to block it.

The only way to get around it would be to find out the Proxy IP and Port number, thus entering that info into the "Connection" properties of AIM, which would then let you bypass the proxy.

At least that's how I did it at my school.

But if its a proxy, how am I able to connect through AIM Express. Or does that not matter?

aim express is different from the aim client. setup a proxy server on ur comp @ home or something and tell aim to connect through it?

No, I don't like Trillian. I like AIM.

...

Is there some sorta program I can run on one of the computers to get the proxy info? The school computers have absolutely NO rights at all. No control panel, dos prompt, or anything.

Basically what he is saying is that he wants it up the ass, but he can't take it up the ass so he keeps dreaming about getting it up the ass, but dreams aren't real.

oy.........

have you even tried using the different settings that are already configured in aim? if not, try going to your connection prefferences (Sign On/Off) and click that button that says Connection. Then click auto configure.

That tries several hosts and ports and sets up the one that works.

If that dont work, then you'll need to find a http proxy (easier to find) somewhere that you can use to go around the school settings.
