Brain Size
Okay... This is just a stupid question...
And NOT scientific (ie Don't go and research it (Well I guess you can...))...
How much do you think the brain can hold in data in terms of computer data size (byte, MB, GB, TB)...
When you give your answer I ask (but of course you don't have to) give a couple reasons why you think as you do... No answer is wrong...
I think the brain can hold... 1,000 GBs of data... This is a pretty large number, but with all the "picture perfect memories"... That's a lot of "video" to remember...

hmm..
an infinate amount i would say, just i'm sure the trash is emptied a lot more than we wish some times, and like any hard drive, it goes bad after a while, i say a infinate, cause i believe the brain will remember and learn anything your willing to put into it.

FALSE!!! you use ALL OF YOUR BRAIN. just not all at the same time. diff lobes do diff functions. that 10% crap is a myth.PhaseDMA wrote:... But you only use 10% of your brain..
its kinda hard to put ur brains storage capabilities into binary... on computers, theres diff formats. png or bmps? compressed or not? etc... so my answer is, i dont know

If I remeber right they did some reasearch on how much the brain can hold a long time ago. It is beleived that our brains can hold 10 TB of infomtion. Also I would like to point out it been discoverd that our brains oparitate very simular to comptuers. We oparate on a Bininy code system. And like rob pointed out we do use close to 100% of our brain

I'm with you on this one. Read this months Popular Science magazine, and it states directly that it IS a myth.
As for what I think of the topic question... an infinite amount, only because when your brain fills up.. it creates new connections and new nodes and stuff to store more information.
But then just as a computer... the older you get... the more wear and tear occurs and eventually crashes.

I dont think the human brain can hold more than a gigabyte of data...
I think the reason we can hold so much 'information' is that it is stored in a vector-like format... I really doubt our brains use BMPs.
... my reasoning is that even though the human brain is big and juicy, its not made to archive data. Its made to survive, and only the data frequently used is kept in good condition. as soon as you start to think of something else, the data begins to degrade and is pushed aside by the new data. That and reflex. Just like physical reflexes, your brain has reflexes. it automatically replaces damaged data with frequently used data that fits best. kinda like jpeg compression...
anyway, thats my 2.5 cents.
