I am having problems with my aim. When I go to IM someone and go to type in the box it wont let me type and it just beeps when i try to type something. It lets me type away messages it just when trying to send messages. If I push the letter "I" when trying to type it comes up with a new im box and the "C" brings up the chat thing, so its like my alt is being pushed down but it's not b/c i've tried an external keyboard and it doesnt do it for anything else. I've ran virus scan, ad-aware, and spybot and even uninstalled and reinstalled it. Please helP!

Get rid of that shitty smile spyware program.

You may have to end task some processes and then run spybot.

After several days of torture trying to figure out this problem on my daughter's computer, I stumbled across the solution. I've pasted a description below:

If you are unable to type in an IM window, and you have installed both Smiley Central and Spybot or other anti-spyware software, try uninstalling Smiley Central ("MyWebSearch" in the Add/Remove Programs control panel). It has been found that using anti-spyware software to remove certain Smiley Central components will prevent you from typing in an IM window. If you reinstall Smiley Central, be careful not to remove its components with anti-spyware software in the future.

When I tried to uninstall MyWebSearch (Smiley Central) through the Add/Remove Program control panel, I got an error that said something about a missing .dll or something to that effect. Makes sense because I had run SpyBot and Ad-Aware which no doubt deleted the files. Anyway, I downloaded and installed the Smiley Central software again and tried the instant message. IT WORKED :D . After I saw that it worked, I went to the Add/Remove Programs control panel and uninstalled the Smiley Central software to prevent SpyBot and Ad-Aware from deleting the files again. 8)
