Whether it expands "brb", etc or edits "u", "r", etc would be a great feature.

That wouldnt work because everyones intention with a abbreviation is all different.

yeah but you could make the popular ones and what they mean you could make it say.......or even have like a list like
  • brb:be right back
    gtg:got to go

That should be a better idea cuz everyone has their own specifications on what their abbreviations mean.

Great ideas... I was just thinking..you could maybe even set it up in a similar way as OfficeXP, or Office 2000. As you start typing "brb" the coding or whatever it is that makes it work, will figure out what your trying to say, and fill in the rest for you...an "auto suggest feature", if you want to call it that.

no you wouldnt have to update aim+ for a bigger librairy of replacments

1. add them yourself

2. download them through a update library button

sounds cool

This function is included in the Windows port (only in alpha stage) of GAIM. I forget what they call it, but it expands both incoming and outgoing messages, and it also corrects minor common misspellings that you add to the list. Like, 'teh' to 'the' or 'ahve' to 'have.' I wish you could customize it to only work on incoming messages though. I have to agree with Jester. I hate messages like "how r u." These aren't abbreviations, it's being lazy. That's only my opinion, but I think that maybe this might be why kids can't spell. If anyone would like me to post a pic, let me know. Or download the program yourself. It's actually quite good. LOTS of good features. I'm still deciding whether to use it or AIM+. I don't think it clones, but I usually only use one SN anyway. Hope I helped.
