occasionally, ive found my netstat to show huge amounts of connections to the aol banner site. here is one:

TCP ar:2995 ads.web.aol.com:http TIME_WAIT
TCP ar:2996 ads.web.aol.com:http TIME_WAIT
TCP ar:2997 ads.web.aol.com:http TIME_WAIT
TCP ar:2998 ads.web.aol.com:http TIME_WAIT
TCP ar:2999 ads.web.aol.com:http TIME_WAIT
TCP ar:3000 ads.web.aol.com:http TIME_WAIT
TCP ar:3001 ads.web.aol.com:http TIME_WAIT
TCP ar:3002 ads.web.aol.com:http TIME_WAIT
TCP ar:3003 ads.web.aol.com:http TIME_WAIT
TCP ar:3004 ads.web.aol.com:http TIME_WAIT
TCP ar:3005 ads.web.aol.com:http TIME_WAIT
TCP ar:3006 ads.web.aol.com:http TIME_WAIT
TCP ar:3009 ads.web.aol.com:http TIME_WAIT
TCP ar:3010 ads.web.aol.com:http TIME_WAIT
TCP ar:3011 ads.web.aol.com:http TIME_WAIT
TCP ar:3012 ads.web.aol.com:http TIME_WAIT

i believe this came after opening and closing a clone. lot of connections, isnt it?

aim 4.7.2480
aim+ 2.2 b63

Not really a bug...

I don't work for Big-O, and I don't know the author(s), but I think I can explain what is happening. AIM+ hides the banner ads, but they are still there, just not visible. If there are 2 banners on AIM, that's 2 connections, if you clone AIM 4 times , that'll be 8 connections, etc.. It's not really a bug in AIM+. The only real way of fixing it would be to modify AIM itself and disable the connection requests.

i figured the same. however, i only cloned aim once or twice, and then closed the clones. im not even sure if this is the cause.

i thought maybe it was because aim stopped responding to tcp connections from ads.web.aol.com, since the client wasnt showing the ads. but... that's a lot of connections for having only one client open.

disable :D

TIME_WAIT means it isnt really even connected.

but...if its really upseting you, why not just disable access to the ad server?

add this to your hosts file:
0.0.0.0 ads.web.aol.com
(in C:\winnt\system32\drivers\etc\)
