you can use aim to talk icq members

Post by Timelessblur »

this is something I just discoverd that can be done. you can talk to ICQ member though AIM all you have to do is enter there icq number on to you buddy list and they are added to the list (for examo 10242357 would be what you would put in and on you buddy list it would look like this 10242357-ICQ) If any one would like to fully test this and see how well it works please post it back here. I discoved it by acciendt when i was using my buddy list to store a set of numbers I needed that I can retrive from any where. Just though you all might like to know

I think version 5.1 allows you to do that. I just entered my own ICQ# into my buddy list, and it's not showing up like I'm online. But then again, I have version 4.8 of AIM.

I thought that this was the only reason that they put out another edition after AIM 5.0...wasn't it in a beta and then released in AIM 5.1? I could be wrong, though.

I heard that it had a couple of bugs like text messing up...but that could've been from the beta. Does the chat work fine for you?

Though the buddy list never has worked with ICQ #'s for me, I've been able to IM ICQ members for a long time (since before I had AIM+ -- May 2002) with AIM.

Can you use ICQ to talk AIM members?
But time flows like a river...

Actually, he's asking if it works both ways. Can you use ICQ to talk to AIM members the same way you can use AIM to talk to ICQ members?

I added a couple ICQ buddies to my AIM buddy list (including my own ICQ#) and logged into ICQ and my ICQ number/name did not appear on my AIM buddy list.

Either there a setup issue or they aren't fully compatible.

I belive you can send IMs but they will never show up on your BL. This has been like this from the start. Try to IM yourself (since you know your on).
